Quick tips for the best glass of water.
Flush your tap water until it's cold. Water that sits stagnant in your plumbing is prone to temperature and chemistry changes, and can cause water to corrode plumbing material.
If you use a filter, change it regularly, per the manufacturers recommendation. This is true for refrigerator filters, pitcher filters, faucet filters, and under sink filters. You should also flush tap water through the filter until it's cold to get the highest quality water (see above).
Bottles water isn't always better. In some cases it can be, but the FDA regulates bottles water and the EPA regulates public drinking water. There is more oversight on public water systems.
If you are unsure, ask someone, or have your well tested regularly.
You don't always need a large softening system, whole house filtration system, or reverse osmosis system. If you choose to use these systems, read more on supplemental treatment here.
Do you live in an apartment, high rise, visit a hotel or large office space? Most water complaints in these instances are associated with building management practices, and not associated with the drinking water provider. Stagnant water can lead to a variety of aesthetic issues. Consider flushing your line regularly to get the best water.
